What women should know about heart health

The major concerns for women's health are heart disease and various forms of cancer. Other top concerns include reproductive health, which includes areas such as menstrual cycle, fertility and menopause. There is also mental health concerns that include areas such as depression and anxiety. Diagnosis and treatment approaches are different than men because health issues can affect women differently.

KEY FOCUS AREAS:

Heart Disease is the biggest health concern for women. It is the cause of a high number of deaths in women and can be misdiagnosed because symptoms can be different from men.

Cancer. Breast cancer is the most aggressive form affecting women globally and a leading cause of death. Other leading forms of cancer of concern for women include lung cancer, colorectal cancer, cervical cancer and cancers of the ovaries, cervix and uterus.

Menstrual Conditions such as (PMS) Premenstrual Syndrome, heavy bleeding, and irregular cycles are common concerns.

Fertility and Pregnancy issues include infertility, complications during pregnancy and issues related to birth control. Endometriosis and uterine fibroids can also affect a women's reproductive health.

Depression and Anxiety can be an issue for some women in particular because of fluctuations in natural hormones that can occur in different stages of a women's life.

Other significant concerns for women include autoimmune disease which can occur if the body's immune cells attack healthy tissue. Osteoporosis which involves bone loss and

require different approaches for women and metabolic disorders that involve obesity and diabetes.
