SNOW STORMS

Snow storms or Winter storms coincide with the types of precipitation that only occurs at freezing temperatures such as snowfall, sleet, mixed snow and rain, windy icy blizzards and freezing rain.

These types of storms are not common to the Caribbean region and hotter climates but there have been some historic events in the past. Snow storms are formed when moist air rises up into the atmosphere creating low pressure near the ground and clouds up in the air, according to Wikipedia.

The primary concerns with winter storms is their ability to bring down power grids, communication networks and immobilize cities and communities. They are dangerous because most deaths are not directly storm related. People mainly die from hypothermia because of prolonged exposure to the cold and traffic accidents because of icy roads. This is why it is very important to be as prepared as possible for these storms when warning is given.
