HURRICANES

The Caribbean region is all too familiar with the term Hurricane. These storms, also go by other names such as Typhoon and Tropical Cyclones in different parts of the world. A hurricane is a massive rotating storm that formed from areas of low pressure building over warm seas. These can quickly gain in strength and intensity and pose a great threat to people, pets, livelihoods and industries when they move over the land. Hurricanes bring strong winds, flooding, tornadoes and storm surges that can cause great destruction and loss of life, especially when they are not prepared for.

Families should form a plan that includes the securing of their properties, going to a shelter if needed, stocking supplies such as food, water and medications. And having a means of staying connected and getting important information during and after the storm.
