ACID REFLUX DISEASE

Gastroesophageal reflux (GER), commonly known as acid reflux, is the backward flow of stomach acid into the tube that connects your throat to your stomach, called the esophagus.

During these episodes, persons tend to feel a burning sensation in the chest commonly called heartburn. These episodes can occur after eating a big meal, after eating foods that trigger the condition or after drinking alcohol or coffee. This condition can sometimes progress to (GERD) which is a more severe form of reflux

CAUSES OF ACID REFLUX:

-Eating large meals late or lying down right after a meal.

-Being overweight or obese.

-Eating a heavy meal and lying on your back or bending over at the waist. Snacking close to bedtime.

-Eating certain foods such as citrus, tomato, chocolate, mint, garlic, onions, spicy or fatty foods, beans, tea, excess alcohol.

-Drinking certain beverages such as alcohol, carbonated drinks, coffee or tea.

-Smoking or being pregnant.

SOME REMEDIES:

-Eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day. Shrink your plate.

-Quit smoking.

-Put blocks under the head of your bed to raise it four to six inches.

-Don't eat 2-3 hours before bedtime.

-Try sleeping in a chair for daytime naps. This helps to reduce the symptoms by keeping stomach acid down instead of flowing up.

-Don't wear tight clothes or tight belts.

-Lose weight if you are overweight.

-Find out whether any medication you are taking may be contributing to your heartburn or other symptoms of acid reflux disease.

-Stay hydrated.

-Get moving, exercise.

-Try probiotics. Yogurt is helpful.

-Minimize stress.

-Slow your eating pace.

-Limit your salt intake.

-If dairy is a problem then use lactose free substitutes.

Meat, poultry, fish, eggs, lettuce, okra, cantaloupe, grapes, berries, cherries, avocado, olives, gluten free bread, rice bread, rice, zucchini, sauerkraut, yogurt etc.

Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) plus water before meals helps to reduce gas. It helps get rid of heartburn. ACV promotes alkalinity and cancer cannot live in an alkaline body! ACV is also good for cleaning and is an alternative to the harmful odors of cleaning liquids. It is also good for your skin.
